1) ff. 2b-4b A treatise in Persian on the qualities of the 36th sura of the Quran
2) ff. 9b-20b An Arabic-Persian-Eastern Turki vocabulary arranged in alphabetical order
3) ff. 21a-37b A treatise in Eastern Turki on the qualities of different precious stones. On f. 21b the anonymous author states that the book is based on sources in Greek and European languages. The book is divided in 12 sections, enumerated on f. 21b, dealing wiht the different precious stones as follows: 1) the diamond, 2) the ruby, 3) the ruby, 4) the emerald, 5) the pearl, 6) the bezoar-stone, 8) the white or pale ambergris, 9) the lapis lazuli, 10) the coral, 11) the agate, 12) the jade. Date 1292/1875-1876. Although no title of the book is mentioned in the text it can be assumed to be ... . Cf. Muginov 160, 161
4) ff. 41b-62b A Persian manuscript entitled ... . A description of the qualities and knowledge of Islam and its institutions
5) ff. 62b-73b A Persian manuscript. The title on f. 63a, a treatise on the religious duties of Islam
6) ff. 73b-90b A translation of the preceding treatise into Eastern Turki. The title on f. 74a. After the end follows the year 1295/1878-1879, and a name, i.e. Turdi Akhon Mirza ibn Ismail Bek, which probably is the name of the copyist. Cf. Prov. 109:1, 287:2, 336:1, 362:1, 362:3
7) f. 90a A short text in Arabic, dated 1291/1874-1875
8) f. 95a An anecdote in Eastern Turki about the Prophet and the Holy 'Ali. The story breaks off unfinished
9) f. 1b A relation of Siamese twins, two boys, born in 1320/1902-1903 on the 2nd of the month of Moharram in the village of Pisend belonging to the Yangi Hissar-district. The twins were taken to Kashghar and shown to the Chinese and local authorities and foreign consuls. Cf. G. Foliation: The ms. is foliated by G. Jarring.

Origin

Place of origin: Eastern Turkistan
Date of origin: 1870's
Three of the manuscripts are dated, viz. No. 3 1292/1875-1876, No. 6 1295/1878-1879 and No. 7 1291/1874-1875. It can be assumed that the other manuscripts belong to the same period.

Provenance: Bought in Kashghar in February 1930 by Gunnar Jarring from the book peddler Roze Akhon (cf. G. Jarring, Åter till Kashgar, Stockholm 1979, p. 123).

Acquisition: The ms. was part of the Jarring collection of Eastern Turkistan manuscripts donated to the Lund University Library in 1982.
