Yusuf Bek and Ahmed Beg

Old number 68. The tale of Yusuf Bek and Ahmed Beg, popular in slightly different forms all over Central Asia. This version deals with a king of Isfahan called Boz Oghlan. He had a vezir by the name of Agha Bek to whom the king gave his sister La'l Khan Ayim in marriage. The had three children -two sons Yusuf Bek and Ahmed Beg and one daughter Qaldar Aghach by name. It is their adventures that are related in this popular tale. On f. 1a a specimen of Turki poetry and some illegible notes. Cf. H. No date indicated, but probably late 19th century.

Provenance: Bought from Rev. David Gustafsson who in the late 1920's acquired it in Yarkand.

Acquisition: The ms. was part of the Jarring collection of Eastern Turkistan manuscripts donated to the Lund University Library in 1982.
